Aristotle, Buddha, and The Space Between

Aristotle and the Buddha both arrived, in their own way, at the conclusion that life ought to be lived from the middle.

Aristotle called it The Golden Mean, the place that exists between excess and deficiency, cowardice and recklessness. Not a mathematical mean, but one based on consideration of available options, of sound reasoning...fluctuating with the circumstance.

The Buddha called it The Middle Way, which resides between self-indulgence and self-denial, attachment and aversion, form and emptiness. A life at play in a world of opposites...a world of profound paradox.

And given the times, and the circumstance, the moment, and the options available - where is the middle ground?

As I share 600 sq ft with my wife without a single closet, where is the middle?

As I navigate paying bills and creating art - where is the middle?

Over and over again - in traffic, at the office, doing dishes, running errands - where is the center of my experience? How do I find it? And what pulls me away from it?

Tomorrow night we will explore the sacred space of the midline...how to open the structure of the spine...and center the fluctuations of the mind.
