If it weren’t for my injuries

Depending on your perspective, it can either be a gift or a curse that you are no longer who you were.

Many people, myself included have spent - or are spending - much of their efforts trying to recreate some former version of themselves. The version who could run ten miles, or flow through gravity-defying yoga sequences, or was X pounds lighter... the person you were before some specific injury or setback.

We think to ourselves... if only I could get to where I was before...

But the truth is we are not who we were. Our experiences change us. Injuries change us. Life changes us. And that seems to be the point of the whole damn thing: to be altered...

to be ever malleable and shape-shifting...to hold oneself to no prior bar or single definition of success, beauty, or improvement.

If it weren't for my injuries, I would have never opted to slow down or been able to recognize the inherent value of stillness, quietness, and change. I would have never come to know their transformative powers.

I hope to practice this week...with whoever you are right now.
