Sovereignty

In our world of screens we see more of the surface now then we ever have before. The superficial, curated, chopped up, and performative version of what we would like to see and how we would like to be seen.

A “reality” composed of data, pixels, color channels, and refresh rates.  It's all pretty far out.

When our eyes get stuck in this untouchable, unsmellable, unfeelable place our bodies suffer the consequences of the overstimulated and undernourished brain. With our mind floating in one abstract space and our body left untended in the other - we disrupt the sacred bond of body, mind and breath.

Though, because this is the reality we live in, screens are deeply ingrained in the fabric of our day to day existence - work, banking, healthcare, and many of our creative outlets - all have been bound into the surface of the screen. Even this email, while first scratched about on paper, is coming to you via a vast network of invisible connectivity and arriving to you on a screened device.

And since I’m meeting you here (if you have made it this far) it would be a good idea for us both to take a deep breath, feel our feet against the floor, and take note of our shape in space...because it's through the breath and the awareness of our body that we remember our way back to ourselves...that we can re-establish our depth of being.

We are much more vast, and capable of much more spaciousness, than any algorithm could ever understand and so we must protect ourselves from falling prey to the surface level distractions they curate to target and decimate our attention.

We must put in the work to cultivate and nourish our awareness, because without it our sovereignty is just a figment of our imagination.
